naked cakes

frosting.

you love it or hate it.

...or there's people like me who are kind of in-between. i can't eat gobs of frosting, but i still enjoy it in moderation. this is where (what i like to call) the naked cake comes in. you still get the slightest taste of frosting between the layers, but it's not overbearing.

here are some naked cakes that look delish!

confetti cake via oh happy day

poppyseed cake with mascarpone frosting via not without salt

tiered and flowered cake via sparkle and hay

even hillary duff's wedding cake was frosting-less!

hillary duff's cake via marry you me

i could see these being hard to make! frosting can cover up your cake mistakes so well- you would definitely have to cut them out of the pan perfectly!

have you ever made a frostingless cake? how did it turn out?

  1. Naked cakes! so great, never heard of that name. I've seen them before though and think it's a great solution. I find myself scraping off tons of frosting, this would be perf! Especially if you are making a colored cake, like red velvet! show off the cake guts :) xoxo!

  2. I'm the same way! David always gets most of my frosting....too much.
And "naked" cakes is the perfect name for it! haha
